Renovations are Underway

Updated: Dec 12, 2021

We closed on our home last month and have hit the ground running with renovations. The first floor is the main focus right now and watching all the demo has been fun!

The entry had a closet that we were on the fence about taking out. Having the storage was nice but it felt dark and closed off. Once the banister and pony wall was removed it helped seal the decision to get rid of the closet. The plan is to add a window in that space now and an iron front double door is going to replace the existing door as well for more light.

The biggest change is for sure going to be in the kitchen/dining room area. We are taking out the dining room completely to make a bigger kitchen and my dream pantry. Those with littles know that a large pantry is a MUST when designing your home and layout.

The old layout was small and not functional for our family of five. We live in our kitchen so this space has been the top priority from day 1. We have spent the last 2.5 months thinking it out, talking through a plan and picking finishes that will stand the test of time. The home is funky and has a uniqueness about it and we want to stay true to that while putting our touch on it.

I think the hardest thing has been finding the supplies we need in stock .. thanks to the pandemic there is a shortage of everything up to paint sheens! Our ideas and plans have been fluid based on that but I think we've settled on something amazing.

Opening everything up brightened the space so so much! I am loving all the light and mountain views from every room on this main level.

Our plan for the banister is to add black steel handrails for a masculine, modern touch. We have A LOT of handrail but that project actually starts next week so we are excited to see how that comes along. They have to weld everything on site - which is part of the reason we've chosen not to move in yet. It's definitely not safe for the kiddos and once those 2x4's are gone there is nothing keeping a fall from the 2nd story to the basement here.

It's all moving in the right direction just slower then we would have hoped. The holidays and a few hiccups along the way already have me feeling like we lost time. My GC (a friend of ours) reassured me we are ok :) I am just anxious to get the fun stuff in!!

Happy decorating! And as always, feel free to contact me if you are needing assistance on your home.

xx,

Heather
